“Dead Come to Life” by Jonathan Thulin

A perfectly fitting song for this blog, but the video for the song is a beautifully told parable. I dare you NOT to spend 10 minutes watching this extended video.

“So Help Me God” by DC Talk

Video

An oldie, but a goodie.

If you really think about the lyrics in the chorus, it is a bit of an interesting paradox. Essentially, it is asking for HELP from God to put FAITH in God. At first glance, that might seem strange, but in reality, building more faith in God is something that is really beyond our natural, human capabilities. In essence, we have to have faith that God will help us have more faith in Him. It is a beautiful cycle if you really let it sink in.

“The Proof of Your Love”

Video

If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.

If I speak God’s Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, “Jump,” and it jumps, but I don’t love, I’m nothing.

If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don’t love, I’ve gotten nowhere.

So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (The Message)

If you read this, Paul clearly defines the “whitewashed tomb” that Jesus referred to in speaking about the Pharisees, the religious elite of His day. They said all the “right” things, performed all the “right” rituals, hung around with all the “right” people.

The problem was, without LOVE, being “right” didn’t equal being “righteous.”

“Meteor Shower” by Owl City

Yes, that’s right. I’m posting an Owl City song on “The REboot” journal. For those of you who don’t know, Adam Young, the man behind Owl City, is a Christian, and while he doesn’t necessarily write a lot of songs with overt Christ-centered messages in them, he does record some on occasion. And, along with my posting of 2 Corinthians 5:17 today, this song follows the theme perfectly of a “new creation in Christ.”

“My Passion” by Travis Cottrell

This is a very simple song with a very powerful message that speaks to me with great power every time I hear it. It is a song of thanksgiving and devotion, and if you are a believer and can listen to it without being overcome with tremendous emotion, head on over to the ER and have them bust out the defibrillator.

“Fight” by Ronnie Freeman

Video

I came to know the music of Ronnie Freeman when I found out that he wrote “My Inheritance,” which was a great song recorded live by Travis Cottrell. At the time, I was co-leading (with my wife) worship music for our local Celebrate Recovery ministry, and I wanted to do the song for one of the Thursday night meetings.

At that time, I had never heard of Ronnie Freeman, so I looked him up and found “My Inheritance” on his album “God Speaking. But in addition to the song I was looking for, I found a collection of tremendous, heartfelt songs about the struggle between flesh and spirit.

So, check out this song, “Fight,” and if you can find it, the songs “Winter” and “Loves the Light” and “No Changing That” will also bless you.

So, if you feel like me–someone who “didn’t pull the trigger enough” and has been “blindsided and shot down,” find some encouragement in “Fight” by Ronnie Freeman.
